This post is going to be about something very near and dear to my heart… the Margarita. Margaritas have always been my drink of choice. However, I find it important to disclaim that I will exclusively drink a classic margarita on the rocks with salt. I do not like the frozen or flavored ones nearly as much. Not only is a margarita my go to drink order but they are also one of my favorite drinks to make. I worked as a bartender over the summer and into last semester and I always loved when customers ordered margaritas because they are really simple to make and they always look so pretty. I make my margaritas really simply. I put 2 oz. of silver tequila, about 1 oz. ounce of triple sec and about a 1/2 ounce of fresh lime juice and then shake away. However, I have seen different bartenders make different choices with their margaritas. For example, one of the bartenders I worked with over the summer grew up in Colombia and he learned to make margaritas with a 1/2 oz. of orange juice and a 1/2 ounce of triple sec as opposed to the 1 oz. of triple sec like I learned to make mine with.
One of my favorite places around here to go for a margarita is El Coyote in Forest Hills. They have a $5 happy hour and their margaritas are always good! They also have AMAZING fresh salsa and a solid happy hour food menu as well. Here is a picture of their classic margarita:
