On Monday, my friend Alexis (aka @alexisstanstacos) decided to go to Taqueria Coatzingo in Jackson Heights for lunch. We both LOVE Mexican food, particularly tacos, so having an excuse to go eat a bunch of tacos in the middle of the day was very exciting for us. Not knowing how big the tacos were going to be we each ordered three tacos and we shared an order of chips and guacamole.
First, I’d like to talk about the guacamole. Let me just say, I have had a lot of guacamole in my day, and I can genuinely say that this guac was easily one of the best that I have ever tried. It was so fresh and the chips were homemade and everything about it was just perfect. I would honestly go back and just order a plate of guacamole and finish it myself.

Second, I will talk a little bit about the tacos I ordered. I decided to get the pollo asado taco, just to have a control for my experiment. It had chicken, guacamole, salsa, and I thought it would be a good starting point. It was delicious! Especially when I added some of the house salsa and tomatillo sauce. I could have had it a little bit spicier, but it was a great first taco!
Next, I had the al pastor taco. This was the first time I ever ordered an al pastor taco and I’m not going to lie, I was blown away. The meat alone was so flavorful, and in combination with the fresh corn tortillas and the AMAZING guacamole, I found myself very quickly slipping into a food coma.
And finally, the best for last… the CARNITAS TACO! I always order a carnitas taco when I get Mexican because it tends to be my favorite, but this was a particularly good one. I also had the carnitas taco from La Taqueria at St. Marks Place, and it was good, but no where near the level of deliciousness that I encountered at Taqueria Coatzingo. The meat was fried on the outside created a mouth-watering char and there was SO much flavor that I could honestly eat a bowl of the carnitas with nothing else and be completely happy. I will DEFINITELY be going back for another one soon.

Overall, my experience at Taqueria Coatzingo was very positive. Alexis and I will definitely be going back again soon with friends and I would definitely recommend it to anyone in the Queens area!
