On a slightly more positive note, Alexis and I also decided to order the Roasted Pork and Garlic Mojo Tostones Relleno while at El Sombrero, and I have to say that these were absolutely amazing. It was carnitas style pork, packed with flavor, and spices, topped with some onions and salsa, stuffed in tostones rellenos (essentially deep fried plantain cups, this will be clearer when you see the picture ), and served on top of a spicy, smooth salsa. For me this was the absolute perfect bite. I had never actually had tostones relleno, but I love plantains so I was pretty sure that this was going to be something that I enjoyed. And I of course ordered the pork because I honestly find the Mexican preparation of pork to be one of the most delicious things on this earth. I also find it necessary to talk about the salsa that the tostones relleno were served over. I am unsure of what it was exactly, but I was soaking it up with the fried plantain because it was so delicious. I am a self-proclaimed sauce-girl, so if anyone can tell what it is by the picture, please let me know because I need more of it in my life! 10/10 would recommend ordering these if you do got to El Sombrero.
I think that although this restaurant was a bit all over the place, I did really enjoy what they are doing with the food. Everything we had was extremely tasty, including the margaritas. However, it definitely is one of those places that makes you wonder if mexican culture is being appropriated for profit. It is called El Sombrero after all, clearly emphasizing being Mexican, but then the menu is definitely not traditional Mexican by any means
